Trodding the Boards

Theater Thoughts
by Uncle Fred

I went Thursday afternoon to the Exxxcitement Theatre on Eleventh Avenue and Thirty-first street to see their production of "Nonstop Wet Sluts and Bad Boys." This was more a musical revue than a traditional play or show. In true cabaret style, a series of dancers and performers took the stage to do short acts, sometimes alone, sometimes in twos or threes. I'm afraid the overall effect was somewhat uneven.

Mocha D-Lite and Debbie Double-D handled the two-headed snake admirably, but their performance was sadly workmanlike. Likewise, Summer Heat's solo dance routine seemed flat and familiar, and quite honestly I thought she lacked the personality to carry off a one-woman show. More interesting, I thought, were Rod Shaft and Cream E. Load in their all-too brief tango "Anal Maniacs." Though the handout I was given outside Port Authority promised a performance by European star Ciao Box, Ms. Box was absent, apparently having thrown herself down a fire escape while trying to induce a miscarriage, and her role was performed by Ms. Cherry Vanilla. Ms. Vanilla was adequate, but I believe the show suffered.

When I first left the theater, I felt somewhat confused, ashamed, and even a little angry at myself, but a good night's sleep has given me a little perspective on the show. I rate it 2 1/2 horseshoes and am eager to give the Exxxcitement Players another chance. Their bill is always changing. But be warned, there is a two drink minimum, which can be pricey, and though there is a dinner theater atmosphere, there is no menu available.

Until the next review, I bid you adieu.
